issue 3

So, I’m here in Mayen and have been since last Friday. (and I apologize in advance for any typos caused by the crazy German keyboards here…)

The town is beautiful, only about 20,000 people living here and in the surrounding area. We had a little city tour on Monday and on Sunday we ‘hiked’ to a nearby castle. The town also has a castle right downtown by the pedestrian zone.

My host family is so awesome! When I arrived, only the youger of my two host sisters was home…the rest of the family was in Leipzig. The house is beautiful (not as beautiful as mine, but pretty darn close ;-) ) and I have an attic bedroom with a skylight-window that looks out on the town.

In the last couple of days I’ve been a bit sick, but it’s not too bad- mostly just a cough. It’s enough to keep me going to bed early, though. I bought the first Harry Potter book auf Deutsch, and at the rate I’ve been going…I should be done sometime around November. Perfect!

Tomorrow, we’re going to nearby Koblenz as a class. It’s supposed to be a beautiful city, and where the Deutsche Eck is (where the Mosel and Rhein rivers converge). I’m staying on an extra day and then going to Bacharach and Trier on my own over the long weekend (Monday is a holiday, so we don’t have any classes).

Sorry I don’t have too much to say, the last few days have been busy…I’m sure I’ll have more to say later.

Tschüß! (or as they say in Mayen, Tschü!)
Vanessa
