Last week I enjoyed my last vacation here in the Philippines. Holy Week is generally a time of travel here as people rush home to be with loved ones and spend a few days in a beautiful place or a corner of the country where they celebrate Holy Week in a big way (like the live crucifixions in Pampanga or the Moriones Festival in Marinduque). Last year, a group of us went to the beach to go camping and enjoy the great outdoors. This year, given the reluctance of anyone to make plans until the last minute, I decided to take a trip to the city.
For the past two years I’ve had plenty of trips which have taken me to Manila, but while there I haven’t managed to see very much of the city. I decided that with my free time I’d go and see all the cultural and historical things in Manila that I’ve always skipped over “for later”. It was a good time and I explored many fun areas of the city, including a trip to the famous Corregidor Island in the Manila Bay. All in all, the trip was nice even though my stomach decided to kick up a little trouble and make me misearable and sick for the last two days. Luckily for me, the office was still open so I just took myself in to talk to the Peace Corps doctors.
Now I’m back in San Jose, and finishing up my last week of activities at the school. I can’t believe how quickly the time is flying- I move out of my house in less than 2 weeks!
