This evening I heard that there was a tsunami heading toward the eastern Philippines from a worried PCV parent texting from the states. Apparently, there was an earthquake in Taiwan and they predicted that a small tsunami might hit the northernmost islands north of Luzon. That warning has since been retracted. Read more…
When I went to email my mom that things were ok here, not to worry- I was greeted with tales of disaster here that I hadn’t even heard: A department store fire killed some shoppers. I didn’t watch the local news, but this happened a good distance from Manila (where I have been spending my holiday).
It seems that unfortunate things happen here pretty routinely, but rest assured that, so far, I’m A-OK!
